Job Overview:

To provide quality care with a child-centered approach to the children participating in all of Mosaic Family Programs ensuring health and safety. The Family Programs Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the care of children aged 6 months to 5 years old in a parent-on-site, license-not-required setting. The ECE is the lead care provider working as a member of a team in a variety of family programs across the city.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Follow all Care for Newcomer Children requirements
  • In collaboration with the Family Programs team, develop multicultural and age-appropriate programs for children of parents attending Family Programs
  • Supporting the summer youth program – ages 6-11 years
  • Prepare the room before the children arrive and secure everything before leaving
  • Interact directly with the children in playing, singing, reading, exercising, crafts
  • Create an environment that fosters positive self-concept and reflects the cultural diversity of the children
  • Work with the other staff members to plan and implement activities which will support and encourage English language learning while valuing and maintaining the first language
  • Maintain and manage the Toy Lending Library

 

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Level II or Level III Diploma
  • Valid First Aid Certificate – Level B CPR
  • Valid Criminal Record Check, and clear Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Experience working with Children aged 6 months to 5 years old
  • Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability/experience working in a multicultural environment
  • Knowledge of a language other than English an asset
  • Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of immigrant families
  • Strength stamina and ability to work with active, young children
  • Demonstrated strong ability to work as a member of a small team
  • Driving license and access to a car is an asset

 

Job Details:

  • Location:   Downtown and other Mosaic Family program sites
  • Schedule:  37.5 hours per week. Starting immediately and until September 15, 2018, Monday to Friday with flexible hours (some evening and weekend work may be required) Contract may be renewed depending on funding
  • Salary:      $18.44
