Mosaic – Newcomer Family Resource Network is a not-for-profit agency assisting in the settlement of newcomers to Winnipeg by providing community-based English as a Second Language and family programmes that include childcare for pre-school aged children.

 Job Overview

The ESL teacher is responsible for planning and implementing English as a second language classes for adult learners in the LINC – Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada program.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach settlement focussed lessons each week to a group of adult learners
  • Plan course content based on results of student needs assessment
  • Implement portfolio-based language assessment (PBLA) for each learner
  • Assess student progress and prepare reports based on Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Work co-operatively with the on-site childcare staff to provide support to parents and their children when necessary.


  • Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate from a TESL Canada certified institution
  • Undergraduate degree
  • CLB Boot Camp Certificate (course available online
  • Experience teaching Canadian Language Benchmark Stage2 learners in a multi-level environment
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA
  • PBLA and training an asset.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the settlement process for newcomers

  • Schedule: Mondays to Thursdays, 9:00 – 11:15 am plus meeting time
    The program follows the public-school schedule and there are three unpaid breaks:
    Winter break (2 weeks), spring break (1 week), and summer break (approx. 2 months)
    The school year of 2024-2025 will be from September 3, 2024, to June 20, 2025
  • Salary: $45.77 per hour (10 hours per week) and 4% vacation pay, with 6-month of probation period
  • Benefit: Benefits package is available after successful completion of probation period
