Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting Facilitator Training

Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting (PDEP) is a Canadian program for parents and caregivers of children from birth to adolescence.

It is a 9-week, group-based, interactive program that helps participants learn a non-punitive, problem-solving approach to resolving conflict and promoting children’s developmental health.  Participants learn about children’s cognitive, emotional, and brain development to help them see the world through children’s eyes.

Through a multi-year project funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada, the PDEP parent program and facilitator training have been revised to integrate a ‘trauma-and-violence-informed’ perspective.  The PDEP Model now incorporates self-regulation as a core component, and the child development content has been enhanced and updated to include information on gender identity and sexual orientation.

For those who wish to facilitate the updated program, it is important to know that:

  • It is now a requirement that PDEP parent programs are delivered by two Co-facilitators, as part of the trauma-and-violence-informed approach.
  • The Facilitator Training is provided over 5 full days.
  • Current Facilitators who wish to deliver the updated program are required to take the new training, as the changes are substantive.

This training will be held in English, but applications from bilingual (French & English) individuals are encouraged to apply.  The updated program will be rolled out in French in the next phase of the project.
