Job Overview
The Family Literacy Programs Coordinator is responsible for the delivery and supervision of all Mosaic Family Literacy Programs. The position involves program management, staff supervision, facilitation, mentoring, training, presentations and workshops. The Family Literacy Programs Coordinator works in partnership with the Family Program Team and under the direction of the Director of Family Programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise all Family Literacy Programs
- Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor program facilitators and term staff
- Coordinate participant recruitment and support program registration
- Liaise with community partners and host sites and prepare partnership agreements
- Ensure program documentation, reporting, and data entry in iCARE and/or CARMIS are completed
- Collect program evaluations and success stories for reporting purposes
- Visit program sites to mentor and support facilitators and/ or facilitate programs as needed.
- Collaborate with the Family Program Team to plan programs and facilitator meetings
- Design program promotional materials such as posters, flyers, and registration forms
- Attend team and supervisor meetings and contribute to the seasonal program planning
- Promote Family Programs and represent Mosaic at community meetings and events
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of child development
- Training in Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting and in Family Literacy programs such as Wiggle, Giggle and Munch, Play to Learn, Play to Learn, or Parent and Child Mother Goose is an asset.
- Experience working in an early childhood setting such as a family resource centre, or daycareor early intervention program for children and families
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the settlement process for newcomer families
- Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team and engage in shared decision-making
- Experience working directly with children and families
- Experience building relationships with community organizations and service providers
- Experience leading and supervising a small team, with the ability to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of an additional language is an asset.
- Experience in budgets, accountability, and reporting
- Demonstrated competency with administrative tasks
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Outlook, Word, Publisher, and Excel, with the ability to learn database systems such as CARMIS and iCARE
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Current clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
- First Aid and Food Handler Certificates are an asset
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment as part of a team
- Ability to work cooperatively in a non-profit and volunteer-based organization
Job Details:
- Job type: Term position, April 20, 2026 – March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension based on budget.
- Job schedule: 20 hours /week Monday to Friday or 4 days a week. Occasional evening or weekend hours as needed.
- Job location: 397 Carlton Street
- The hourly rate: $23.65 (Coordinator level 1 probation rate) plus 4% vacation pay.
- This position is eligible for group extended benefits including health and dental coverage, employee assistance program and optional RRSP matching program after the 6-month probation period.
