Mosaic – Newcomer Family Resource Network is a rights-based organisation that provides newcomer parents and primary caregivers with opportunities to develop additional language and life skills that lead towards contributing to and sharing in the benefits of their new communities
Responsibility of the Board
The Mosaic Board of Directors has the responsibility for general supervision of the affairs of the organisation, in an advisory capacity, as specified in the bylaws.
Specifically, the Board is responsible for:
- Working with the Senior Leadership team to develop a long-range strategic plan for the organisation
- Overseeing the Executive Director, including hiring, termination, performance evaluations and overall suitability for the management of the organisation
- Ensuring that Mosaic is carrying out its mission
- Monitoring Mosaic’s financial health and investments
- Providing professional assistance as required by the organisation determined either by Board decision, or Executive Director request

General Responsibilities:
To ensure the Board achieves the goals it establishes each year.
As per Mosaic’s By-laws – The Board will always seek to include a majority of individuals with lived experience as a newcomer to Canada within its membership.
Specific qualifications/expertise we are seeking – We are looking for Board members who bring any of the following key characteristics:
- Working knowledge of marketing and communications
- Working knowledge of social enterprises
- Experience with succession planning
- Insight into the experience of newcomer parents and building cross cultural bridges
- Knowledge of the challenges facing marginalized newcomer communities
Commitment Required:
- 7-10 Board in-person meetings per year between September and June – evening meetings from 5:00-7:30 dinner provided
- Committee meetings as required
- Annual General Meeting in June
- Terms are for 3-years
